Biography

Jens Carlowitz was elimanted in the semifinals over 400 metres and placed fourth with the 4×400 metres relay at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He took part in the 1987 and 1991 World Championships over 400 metres and in the 4×400 relay with his best result being sixth in the 1991 relay. He also ran the 400 metres at the 1989 World Cup. At the 1992 World Cup he was fifth in the relay for the European team. At the 1990 European Championships he earned two bronzes in the 400 and relay. Carlowitz competed in five European Cups (1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991) winning relay medals as follows: gold (1987), silver (1983 and 1985), and bronze (1989), and adding a silver over 400 metres in 1989.

Carlowitz won GDR national titles over 400 m and 400 m hurdles in 1990, in the 4×100 m relay in 1987 and 1990, and in the 4×400 m relay in 1987, 1988 and 1990. After German reunification he was 1991 German Champion in the 400 m, and in the 4×400 m relay in both 1995 and 1996. He was trained to be an electrician but later took a job as a sales manager in the automobile industry in his home town of Cottbus.

Personal Best: 400 – 44.86 (1989).
