Sabine Everts

West German heptathlete Sabine Everts was nominated for the 1980 Moscow Games but due to the US-led Western boycott she could not compete. In 1984 she won the bronze medal in Los Angeles in the absence of the Eastern European nations, who boycotted those games. She would have won the competition by one point if the 1985 tables had been valid at the Los Angeles Games. In 1988 at Seoul she withdrew after the first day of the heptathlon. She participated in the 1983 World Championships (fourth in heptathlon, eliminated in the qualification of the long jump), the 1982 European Championships (bronze heptathlon, fifth in the long jump), the European Cup 1983 (fifth over 400 m hurdles and in the long jump), 1985 (fourth over 400 m hurdles), the 1980 European Indoor Championships (silver in the long jump) and 1982 (gold in the long jump). Domestically she collected 22 national titles. She was world-ranked six times in the heptathlon, with a best of #2 in 1981 and #4 in 1982, and was world ranked #7 in the long jump in 1982.

In 1984 she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf of the German Track and Field Association. She then married former triple jumper and track coach Hans-Jörg Thomaskamp in 1992 and was the mother of two sons.
