Biography

Beate Peters, a javelin thrower, was the partner of multi-athlete Sabine Braun and the first German athlete who openly admitted her homosexuality. From 1999-2002 Peters also coached Braun in the javelin. Peters came in seventh at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics but failed to qualify for the final four years later in Seoul. At the World Championships she was seventh in 1983 and won a bronze medal in 1987, as she did at the 1986 Europeans. Domestically she won West German titles in 1985 and 1986.
