Biography

East German javelin thrower Volker Hadwich reached the final of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics with the reunified German team, eventually placing 12th. He had the third-best mark in qualifying, with 81.10 metres, but he performed poorly in the final. He was third in 1989 both at the World Cup and the European Cup and also became the last East German Champion that year. In 1992 Hadwich won the German Championship after reunification.

In 1994, the well-known German news magazine Der Spiegel reported that Hadwich was involved in doping practices with anabolic steroids even after German reunification.
