Biography

Werner Hartmann was a discus thrower who competed at the 1984 Olympics, the 1987 World Championships, and the 1978 and 1982 European Championships, but was never able to get past the qualifying rounds. He was nominated for the 1980 Moscow Olympics but due to the US-led boycott was unable to compete, and he later criticized the boycotting nations in several articles and interviews. Domestically Hartmann won the 1979 West German discus title, and was runner-up 1982, 1984 and 1987. He was educated as a book printer and later works as an industrial clerk.
