German high jumper Wolfgang Kreißig finished ninth at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and four years later at Sydney was eighth. In both those years he won the German national title.
In his youth, Kreißig was a soccer coach before starting high jumping at the age of 16. He studied law after his sporting career and became a judge at the district court in Stuttgart. He also became chairman of the judicial committee of the German Athletics Federation. In 2017, he was named president of the State Office for Communication in Baden-Württemberg. He married his team-mate Alina Astafei.
