Franco Leccese

Franco Leccese was an Italian sprinter whose sporting career began in 1943. He won the 1950 Italian title over 200 metres in Torino (21.8), and won the 100 metre national title in 1951 in Milano (10.9). In 1950 he took silver in the 100 behind Étienne Bally at the European Championships in Brussels and in 1951 added a gold medal in the 4×100 relay at the Mediterranean Games. In his only Olympic experience (Helsinki 1952) he competed in the 100 metres and the 4x100 relay, but in both cases was eliminated in the first round. Leccese won 13 international caps from 1949-54. In his hometown of Condove, the local sports hall was named after him.
