Biography

While attending Otaru High School, Kenzo Yashima participated in the marathon of the 1920 Antwerpen Olympic Games as the first Olympian from the island of Hokkaido. In the following year, he took part in the marathon of the 5th Far Eastern Games. Later, he advanced to Meiji University and was a member of the university’s team in the Hakone Ekiden relay for six consecutive years (1923-28), winning the respective section award for five consecutive years.
