Ede Vadászi (born Viboch) graduated from a commercial school in 1941, and in 1948 he obtained a diploma in economics and a doctorate from the József Nádor University of Technology and Economics in Budapest. Vadászi was introduced to basketball during his university years with him winning the national championship twice with his teams (1943/44 MAFC, 1950 Műegyetem MEFESZ). Between 1943 and 1950 he played 17 times for the college national team and 23 times for the adult team.
Vadászi won bronze at the 1946 European Championship in Geneva and finished seventh at the 1947 Continental Tournament in Prague. He participated in the 1948 London Olympics, where the Hungarian team defeated Italy, Canada, and the host Great Britain, but lost to Uruguay and the group winners Brazil after extra time, so they did not advance to the top eight. The Hungarian management did not allow the team to play for 9th-16th place, so due to the lack of play, the team was automatically ranked 16th. He was also a member of the Hungarian team that finished third at the 1949 World College Championships in Budapest.
From 1951, in addition to his sports career, Vadászi also worked as a coach, which he continued after his retirement. He completed the necessary studies in 1963, when he obtained a coaching certificate and officially became a basketball coach. He made his name as a coach at several clubs, such as Bp. Építők (1951-1954). In 1957, he was the coach of the MTK men’s team, the MAFC men’s team (1958-1959), and the VTSK and BSE men’s team (1961-1973). He also became the coach of the Hungarian men’s national team between 1966 and 1967. In recognition of his coaching career, he was awarded the title of master coach in 1969.
Vadászi also established himself as a sports manager with him heading of the Budapest coaching committee between 1952 and 1955, before becoming a member of the national coaching committee of the Hungarian Basketball Association between 1956 and 1973.
