Biography

Gerson Victalino, always known to Brazilian sports fans only as Gerson, played basketball at the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympics. He played for Timão (Sport Club Corinthians Paulista), joining them in 1983 and helping them win the São Paulo Championship that year, as they also finished second at the Brazilian Championships. Gerson played at the 1983 and 1987 Pan American Games, winning silver in 1983 and gold in 1987. He died after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ([ALS] aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease / motor neurone disease) for several years.
