Patricia Hy-Boulais

Patricia Hy-Boulais played tennis professionally from 1986 to 1998. Hy-Boulais achieved a career-best singles ranking of 28 in the world in March 1993, and a doubles ranking of 36 in the world in March 1987. She was born in Cambodia to Cambodian parents, initially playing internationally for Hong Kong, before representing Canada from 1988 and becoming a Canadian citizen in 1991.

Hy-Boulais won her first ITF singles title in January 1983 in Miami, United States, before going on to win three more singles titles. Her first ITF doubles title was in November 1984 in Peterborough, England, when she teamed with Marianne van der Torre of the Netherlands. On the WTA Tour she won her only doubles title in 1994 at the Auckland Open with Argentina’s Mercedes Paz. Her only singles title came the following year at the British Clay Court Championships in Bournemouth, England, with victory against Ludmila Richterová. At Grand Slams she reached the doubles semi-finals at the 1987 Australian Open and the singles quarter-finals at the 1992 US Open.

Hy-Boulais competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. At the Los Angeles Olympics she represented Hong Kong in the singles when tennis was a demonstration sport. Eight years later she returned to the Olympics, representing Canada, reaching the second round in both the singles and doubles in Barcelona. At the Atlanta Games she again competed in the singles and doubles, reaching the quarter-finals in the latter with partner Jill Hetherington.
