Biography

Martin Laurendeau was a Canadian tennis player who played professionally from 1986 to 1993. Laurendeau achieved a career-best singles ranking of 90 in the world in October 1988, and a doubles ranking of 139 in the world in August 1989.

Laurendeau won his first ATP Challenger singles title in September 1987 in Thessaloniki, Greece, when he beat Niclas Kroon in straight sets. The following year he competed in the singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics but lost to Anders Järryd in the first round. 1988 also saw Laurendeau’s best performance at a Grand Slam when he reached the fourth round in the singles at the US Open.

Laurendeau retired from playing in 1993, becoming a coach the following year. In 2004 he became the non-playing captain of Canada’s Davis Cup team after the resignation of Grant Connell.
