Biography

Chandra Cheeseborough was a top junior sprinter when she made the 1976 US Olympic team. She then returned in 1984, moving up in distance to the 400, in which she won a silver medal, and adding gold medals in both relays. Cheese won the US Olympic Trials in the 200 in 1980, for the team that did not compete at Moskva, and the 400 in 1984. She was TAC Champion in the 100 in 1976, and finished second that year in the Olympic Trials in both the 100 and 200.

Cheese won gold in the 200 metres at the 1975 Pan American Games. She was also a member of two gold medal winning 4x100 metre Pan American Games relay teams in 1975 and 1979. She set three American records, one in the 200 in 1975 and two in the 400 in 1984. Chandra Cheeseborough was world ranked five times, twice in the 100 (1976-9, 1983-10), twice in the 200 (1975-5, 1983-8), and ranking fifth in the 400 in 1984.

Cheeseborough later became a coach, returning to her alma mater at Tennessee State University. She also coached US teams at the 1999 Junior Pan Ams, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
