Biography

Mamie Rallins started out running with the Mayor Daley Youth Foundation in Chicago, and later was a hurdler for Tennessee State. She won four AAU Outdoor high hurdle championships, in 1967-68 at 80 metres, and 1970 and 1972 at 100 metres. She was also the AAU Indoor 60 yard hurdle champion in 1969, and won the 1968 US Olympic Trials in the 80 metre hurdles. At the 1967 Pan American Games, Rallins won a silver medal in the high hurdles, and ran on a sprint relay team that was disqualified for a bad exchange. She later became a college track coach at The Ohio State University, the first African-American woman to coach the Buckeyes in any sport. Rallins served as an assistant coach for USA in the 1996 Olympics.
