Biography

German swimmer Max Pape from Berlin won a silver medal at the 1906 Athina Olympics in the 4x250 metres freestyle relay. He also came fourth in the one mile freestyle. Pape had travelled to St. Louis in 1904, and participated in two non-medal events, the 440 and 880 yards handicaps, finishing third in the 880. As a member of Private Badegesellschaft Berlin, he was also selected as a substitute for the 220, 440, and 880 yards freestyle medal events but did not compete.
