Biography

Aslaug Dahl was born and raised in Nesseby, a Sami municipality in northern Norway. As a teenager she excelled locally in cross-country skiing, and in 1970, aged 20, she was Norwegian Champion at 5 km. Her first international appearance was the 1970 World Championships, where she placed fourth with the relay team. At the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics Dahl was in medal contention halfway at the 10 km distance, but faded and ended up finishing sixth.

Her only Olympic medal came in the 3x5 km relay, where the Norwegian team ended in third place. She competed in the World Championships at Falun in 1974, and was Norwegian champion over the 5 km distance in 1975. However, she failed to qualify for the 1976 Winter Olympics and ended her skiing career. Her son Henning Dahl Holti later became national indoor pole vault champion twice (2009-10) with a personal best of 5.21.
