Biography

Laura Golarsa was an Italian tennis player who played professionally from 1985 to 2001. Golarsa achieved a career-best singles ranking of 39 in the world in June 1990, and a doubles ranking of 23 in the world in August 1995.

On the ITF circuit Golarsa won six singles titles and three doubles titles. Her first singles title came in April 1985 in Monviso, Italy, with a straight sets victory against Argentina’s Patricia Tarabini. In September 1992 she teamed with Laura Garrone with the pair winning in Arzachena, Italy. Golarsa never won a singles title on the WTA Tour but did win six doubles titles. Her first title came at the 1989 Sofia Open where she again paired with Laura Garrone. Her final doubles title was at the 1999 Belgian Open when she partnered Slovenia’s Katarina Srebotnik.

Golarsa’s best performance at a Grand Slam came at Wimbledon in 1996 when she reached the semi-finals in the mixed doubles. She reached the quarter-finals of the singles at Wimbledon in 1989, and the third round of all four Grand Slams in the doubles during the mid-1990s. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics she teamed with Silvia Farina in the doubles, but the pair lost their opening round match.
