Biography

Josephine Gibbs learnt her skiing while attending finishing school in Switzerland and in 1958 was third overall in the 1958 British Women´s Ski Championships. Two years later she was the champion at Davos after beating Wendy Farrington into second place.

A dress-designer at the time, Gibbs went to the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics and competed in all three Alpine skiing disciplines with a best finish of 25th (out of 42) in the downhill, when she was the highest placed British woman. Josephine was a member of the Gibbs family, who owned the famous Bromyard Brick & Tile Works in Herefordshire. She married Peter Daly in 1962. Gibbs was a friend and team-mate of Sonja McCaskie, who was murdered in the USA in 1963.
