Biography

Simone Greiner-Petter-Memm began her athletic career as a cross country skier from 1987 to 1997, but took up biathlon in 1992, and competed in that sport thru 2000. In addition to her Olympic performance in cross-country at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, Greiner-Petter finished 15th over 20 km at the 1987 World Championships. Her only individual World Cup victory in cross-country was in a 20 km event in 1988.

As a biathlete, she had more success, winning a silver medal in the relay at the 1994 Winter Olympics, four relay gold medals at the 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1999 World Championships, also a team gold in 1995 and a silver in 1996, and winning individual World Cup races. She later married Silvio Memm, a former nordic combined skier, who participated in the World Championships, but not the Olympics.
