Biography

Betsy Haines won multiple Alaskan high school track titles while at East Anchorage High School, and also competed in tennis at the junior national level. She was named to the US ski team when she was only 15-years-old. In 1980 Haines won the US title at 20K. She later skied in college and was a three-time All-American. She continued to compete after college, winning the 1987 National Ski Marathon Ski Circuit. She later worked for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company and has been selected as one of 10 Women of Achievement in Alaska in 2004, for her work in the community and on her job. Haines works with youths helping them pursue careers in math, science, or engineering, and has organized math and science nights at Anchorage schools.
