Marina Kiehl won her first World Cup race in a Super-G in March 1984. At the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games she placed fifth and sixth in the giant slalom and the downhill race, respectively. In 1985 and 1986 she was World Cup champion in both giant slalom and Super-G. During her career she won seven World Cup races, six in the Super-G. She also won five West German national titles. Kiehl retired after her 1988 Olympic gold medal in the downhill race, at only 23-years-old.
