German multi-eventer Karin Ertl placed seventh and 17th at the 2000 Sydney and the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics in the heptathlon. She won bronze medals in the pentathlon at the 2001 World Indoor and the 1998 European Indoor Championships. Her greatest moment came in 2000 when she won the European Indoor Championships in the pentathlon. In 2001, she won the European Cup in heptathlon. Nationally, she won the titles in 1999 and 2001. Ertl trained as a dental assistant and later raised three children.
