Biography

West German ski jumper Max Bolkart’s biggest success was victory at the Four Hills Tournament in 1959-60 when he won three events at Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and Innsbruck and finished fifth in the last event at Bischofshofen. He participated in three Winter Olympics in 1956-64 finishing, respectively, fourth, sixth and 37th (due to a shoulder injury) in the normal hill event. He was the West German champion four times in 1956-58 and 1964. Bolkart became a youth coach and worked as a machine fitter at the Oberstdorf electric company before running the family owned hotel “Freiberg” in Oberstdorf.
