Biography

Ice hockey forward Georg Franz played with the German national team and appeared at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics representing West Germany and the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics representing re-unified Germany. In total, he earned 141 international caps, scoring 26 goals, and appeared at six World Championships. In 2007, he was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Domestically, Franz played with EHC Straubing (until 1983 and from 1998-2002), SB Rosenheim (1983-95, German Champion in 1985, 1989), EC Hedos München (1992-94, German Champion in 1994), EV Landshut, and ERC Sonthofen. At Straubing he became coach and among Straubing coached the German U18 national team as an assistant coach beginning in 2006.
