Biography

Arnold Hirtz was a goaltender who played for several clubs in Zürich, including Zürich City, Zürich AEHC, Grasshopper Club Zürich, and Zürcher SC, and he was briefly with Arosa EHC in 1931/32. Hirtz competed at the 1936 Winter Olympics and the World Championships in 1933-35 and 1937-38. In that era the Worlds doubled as the European Championships, helping Hirtz to win a silver and bronze medal at the Worlds, and four medals at the Europeans, with a gold in 1935, silvers in 1934 and 1937, and a bronze in 1933. Hirtz was a lawyer in Zürich and became an international hockey referee in the 1940s.
