Biography

Ronny Rauhe was one of the most successful German sprint canoeists ever. He participated in six Olympic Games from 2000 at Sydney until 2020 at Tokyo. He won two Olympic gold medals (kayak doubles over 500 meters in 2004 with Tim Wieskötter and kayak fours over 500 metres in 2020), one silver medal (with Wieskötter in 2008 in the K2-500 metres) and two bronze medals (with Wieskötter in 2000 in the K2-500 metres and the kayak singles over 200 metres in 2016). He only failed to win a medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Rauhe also won 28 medals at European Championships (17/9/2) and another 26 medals at the Worlds (16/5/5). He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 2021, Rauhe was presented the “Sparkassenpreis for Role Models in Sport” of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association (DSGV) as part of the ZDF Gala Sportsman of the Year. At Tokyo 2020, Rauhe was the German flagbearer at the closing ceremony.

In 2014 Rauhe married his teammate Fanny Fischer (daughter of Sarina Hülsenbeck). The couple raised two children. Rauhe studied sport marketing at the University of Potsdam.
