Biography

German diver Heiko Meyer was a two-time Olympian who partnered Jan Hempel at the 2000 Sydney Games in the synchronized platform event, winning the bronze medal. In the individual platform event, he finished 11th. Four years later at Athens, Meyer came seventh in the platform event. Meyer also won nine medals at European Championships with two golds, in 1999 (synchronized platform), and 2002 (individual platform). He added six more silver medals and one bronze.

Meyer was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Domestically, he won 27 national titles and retired after the 2008 Olympics, after failing to win selection for Beijing. He later became youth coach at his home club SC Riesa.
