Biography

German Walther Kohlhase studied from 1926-28 at the Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Craft in Leipzig, and subsequently until 1931 at the Art Academy in Wrocław (Breslau), which was considered particularly progressive. He first worked as an art teacher at schools in the Harz Mountains. After World War II, he worked in Schleswig-Holstein as a student trainer for art teachers.

Kohlhase specialized in woodcuts and lithographs. He was a representative of what was termed New Objectivity.
