Biography

Isamu Toyofuji was a Japanese painter and illustrator from Osaka. In the late 1930s and early 1940s he presented his western style paintings at major exhibitions. His works also appeared in literature magazines such as Mita bungaku (Mita Literature) and Shi shito (Poetry Apostle). In 1940 he was awarded the Association Award of the Independent Art Association. The illustration of his painting Judo from the 1936 art exhibition is one of the few reproductions of his works. A painting titled Rugby was represented in the catalog of the 17th Nika exhibition in 1930.
