Biography

Rocky Marval skated pairs with multiple partners, including Natasha Kuchiki and Maria Lake, but he is best known for his years with Calla Urbanski. Urbanski and Marval were not typical figure skaters, coming from a less privileged background than many, and they were dubbed “The Waitress and the Truck Driver,” because of jobs they held to support their figure skating. As amateurs, Urbanski and Marval won the US title in 1992-93, and Skate American in 1991. They then skated professionally, placing third at the 1998 World Professional Championships. Urbanski and Marval were known for their fiery relationship, often fighting on and off the ice, although it was never a romantic relationship. Marval married Canadian figure skater Isabelle Brasseur. He has become a manager of figure skaters, and also is the director of skating at the Igloo Ice Rink in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey.
