Biography

Margot Ulzheimer took up track athletics after World War II and won the German national championship in the 100 metres in 1950. Two years later, she was selected to as an alternate on the German 4x100 metres relay squad at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, but did not actually compete in her country’s eventual second-place finish. She retired from active competition in 1954 and settled down into married life with her husband, double Olympic bronze medal-winning athlete Heinz Ulzheimer, whom she had married in 1951. They were together for just over 65 years before Heinz died in December 2016, at the age of 90. By career Margot was a commercial clerk and tailor in the fashion industry.
