Biography

Czech-born rower Lenka Wech represented Germany in three consecutive Olympic Games from 2000 at Sydney to 2008 at Beijing. She partnered Claudia Barth at Sydney in the coxless pairs and came sixth. At Athens she rowed with the eights who placed fifth. At Beijing she partnered Maren Derlin in the coxed pairs and was fourth. With the eights that year, it was the only time in her Olympic career that Wech failed to reach a final, finishing seventh.

At World Championships, Wech won the bronze medal with the coxless fours in 1996, before she moved to the eights and won bronze in 2001 and 2002, and gold in 2003. In 2006, she added a silver, again with the eights. Wech won the national title with the eights in 2001 and 2003, and with the coxless fours in 1996 and 2000-01. With the quadruple sculls she won the title in 2010, and in 2000, 2003 and 2008 with the coxless pairs.

Wech was chosen as a member of the executive board of the World Rowing Association FISA. By profession, she became a graduated medical practitioner specialising in oral and maxillofacial surgery, but then concentrated on trauma surgery. She married non-Olympian rower Paul Dienstbach.
