Biography

Misty Hyman was a butterfly swimmer who won gold in the 200 metre butterfly at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She was third in that event at the 1998 World Championships and the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships. Hyman’s most successful tournament was the Short-Course World Championships, where she won seven medals in 1995 and 1997, including a gold in the 100 backstroke in 1995.

Hyman swam in college at Stanford where she twice won the Honda Sports Award for swimming as the outstanding female college swimmer in 1998 and 2001. Graduating in 2002 Hyman later earned an MBA in hospitality at Les Roches University in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

In 1996 Hyman also competed at the World Finswimming Championships, held in Hungary. She later became a swim coach, giving private lessons in Arizona, and in 2015 was named an assistant coach at Arizona State University.
