Biography

After turning professional in 1989 South African tennis player David Adams won 19 doubles titles and achieved a career-best ranking #9 in the world in February 1994. Adams won his first doubles title in May 1992 with Menno Oosting of the Netherlands, with victory at the BMW Open in Germany. For the first half of the decade Adams would partner either Oosting or the Russian tennis player Andrey Olkhovsky, reaching the final of various tournaments on more than 20 occasions. By the mid-1990s he had formed a partnership with fellow South African John-Laffnie de Jager, with the pair eventually finishing fourth at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Adams won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles with compatriot Mariaan de Swardt. Their first title came at the Australian Open in 1999 before winning at the French Open the following year. At the 1992 French Open he and Andrey Olkhovsky reached the final of the doubles but lost to the Swiss pair of Jakob Hlasek and Marc Rosset. Adams also reached the doubles semi-finals at the US Open in 1993 and Wimbledon in 2000.
