The Woodies, Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde, were back and were hoping to close out their doubles career together with another gold medal, this one in their native Australia. They easily made it to the final, winning three matches in straight sets. In the final they faced the Canadian team of Sébastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor, who had been playing together for only a year. The Woodies won the first set, 7-5, but Lareau and Nestor prevailed, winning the last three sets.
