Andrei Pavel was a Romanian tennis player who played professionally from 1995 to 2009. Pavel achieved a career-best singles ranking of #13 in the world in October 2004, and a doubles ranking of #13 in the world in April 2007. He played on Romania’s Davis Cup team from 1991 to 2008.
Pavel won three ATP singles titles during his career with his first victory coming at the 1998 Japan Open with a straight sets win against Byron Black. Between September 1998 and April 2007 he also won six ATP doubles titles. Pavel’s best Grand Slam performance came at the 2002 French Open when he reached the quarter-finals, where he lost to Álex Corretja. Pavel competed at four consecutive Olympic Games; 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney, and 2004 Athína, but he never progressed past the first round. After his playing career Pavel became a coach working with Horia Tecău, Jelena Janković, Tamira Paszek, Simona Halep, and Filip Jianu.
