Biography

Jimy Szymanski was a Venezuelan tennis player who played professionally from 1994 to 2008. Szymanski achieved a career-best singles ranking of #160 in the world in November 1999, and a doubles ranking of #187 in the world in June 2000. He played on Venezuela’s Davis Cup team from 1992 to 2006.

As a junior player Szymanski reached the boys’ singles final at Wimbledon in 1993 but lost to Răzvan Sabău of Romania. Szymanski won eight singles titles on the ATP Challenger and ITF Futures Tours with his first victory coming at the 1996 Szczecin Open in Poland when he beat Nuno Marques. Szymanski also won four doubles titles on the ATP Challenger and ITF Futures Tours from July 1999 to November 2007. At Grand Slams Szymanski only made it to the main draw on two occasions when he reached the first round at the US Open in 1996 and 1997.

At the Central American and Caribbean Games Szymanski won eight medals including a team gold in 1993, and gold in the singles and mixed doubles in 1998. At the 1995 Pan American Games he won bronze in the singles and the mixed doubles.

Szymanski competed in the singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the doubles at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. At the Atlanta Games he lost in the first round to Wayne Black of Zimbabwe. At the Sydney Games he partnered José de Armas with the pair losing in the second round to the eventual gold medallists Sébastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor.
