Biography

Tony Azevedo is considered one of the all-time greats in water polo in the United States. He played for TeamUSA at five Olympics Games, consecutively from 2000-16, winning a silver medal in 2008. He won five gold medals at the Pan American Games, also consecutively from 1999-2015.

Azevedo played in college at Stanford, leading them to NCAA titles in 2001 and 2002. For all four years of his college career he won the Peter J. Cutino Award, given to the nation’s top water poloist. He graduated from Stanford with a degree in international relations.

Azevedo played professionally in Europe, beginning with Bissolati Cremona (Italy) in 2004. He later played for VK Jug in Dubrovnik, Croatia from 2008-10 and VK Primorac in Kotor, Montenegro to the end of his career.

Azevedo was initially coached by his father, Ricardo Azevedo, a former member of Brazil’s national water polo team. After his playing career ended Tony began an entertainment career with The Tony Azevedo Podcast in 2020.
