Biography

Julie Swail-Ertel is the only athlete to have competed at the Olympics in triathlon and water polo. She captained the USA water polo team that won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and then came back in the triathlon, finishing 19th at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Swail-Ertel won a gold medal in triathlon at the 2007 Pan American Games and was USA Champion that year. She also competed at the 2003 Pan American Games and the 2004 World Championships in triathlon. She graduated from UC San Diego and later earned a master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University. She has coached water polo at UC Irvine and taught physical education at Orange Coast Community College.
