Biography

Cara Heads-Lane was an American weightlifter who competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She attended U Cal Berkeley where she threw the hammer on the track & field team, finishing third in the PAC-10 Conference Championships as a freshman. After her freshman year she changed her focus to weightlifting.

Heads-Lane won a silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 1997 World Junior Championships. She competed at the World Championships in 1998-99, 2002, and 2004 and again at the Pan American Games in 2003. Heads-Lane was USA Champion in 1997-98, 2000, and 2002-05. Internationally she won titles at the 2004 Titan Games, the 1997 NACACI Championships, and the 1995 and 1997 Copa Guatemala Championships.

Later as Cara Heads-Slaughter, she became a weightlifting coach in the DC area. She also obtained a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Colorado. Heads-Lane-Slaughter was inducted into the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame.
