Biography

Together with his older brother Ulrich and cousin Hans-Martin, Gebhard Poltera learned to play hockey on the natural ice of Arosa. At age 16, he debuted for the senior team of EHC Arosa, which was one of the Swiss top teams of the time. Between 1951 and 1957, the team won seven consecutive Swiss titles, with Poltera as a forward. With his brother and cousin, he also played in the Swiss national team, for a total of 108 matches, during which he scored 98 goals. The Swiss were a top team at the time, and Poltera won an Olympic bronze medal, as well as three World Championship bronzes. Their 1950 third place also doubled as first place in the European Championships. After playing ice hockey, Poltera briefly worked as a coach, before turning to interior decorating.
