Biography

Ulrich Poltera competed at the 1948 and 1952 Winter Olympics for Switzerland, winning a bronze medal in 1948. He played through the 1950s for EHC Arosa. Poltera grew up playing hockey on the ponds around Arosa with his brother, Gebhard, who was on the Swiss Olympic teams with him in both 1948 and 1952. Ulrich Poltera was on seven consecutive Swiss Championship teams, from 1951-57. Internationally he won World Championship bronze medals in 1950-51 and 1953, and won six European Championship medals – gold in 1950, silver in 1951, and bronze in 1947, 1949, and 1952-53.
