Biography

Rizzieri Rodeghiero competed as both a cross-country skier and in Nordic combined. Born in 1919, he followed his older brother Cristiano Rodeghiero into cross-country skiing. Both brothers would go on to compete at the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Olympics. From an early age Rizzieri showed an innate skill in ski preparation. While still a teenager, his family remembers him mixing his first waxes in saucepans in the kitchen of their house. At the age of 28 he took part in the 1948 Olympics, both in cross-country skiing and in Nordic combined. In the former sport he competed in the 18 km and 4x10 km relay race; in the latter he was 15th in an event dominated by the Nordic countries. At the Italian cross-country championships, Rodeghiero won 3 golds and 3 silvers in the 18 and 50 km, while at the national Nordic combined championships he won 4 golds and 1 silver in the individual. After the Oslo Olympics, Rodeghiero took over the role of cross-country coach. He helped prepare, especially on a technical level, the strong Italian team of that era, that brought Franco Nones to the gold medal at the Grenoble Olympics. He also founded the company Scioline Rode which quickly became successful in the production of ski wax and skiing equipment in general.
