Biography

Anton Steiner made his World Cup début in 1975 and raced internationally through the 1988 season, appearing at four Winter Olympics. His only Olympic medal was a bronze in the downhill at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. He added another bronze in the combined event in the 1982 World Championships at Schladming. Steiner won five World Cup races in his career, twice in downhill and three times in the combined, and had 17 World Cup podiums, mostly in downhill (8) and combined (7). He finished third in the seasonal combined World Cup in both 1979-80 and 1983-84. He was a three-time Austrian champion, winning the combined in 1976 and 1982 and the slalom in 1982.

Steiner and his wife settled in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, where he had attended the Skihandelsschule. In 1988 he took over management of the Skihandelsschule, via his company, Anton Steiner Gmbh & Co. KG, and Steiner has become a successful Austrian businessman. In 1996 he was given a gold medal for meritorious service to the Austrian Republic.
