Fen skater Tom Sutton came from a family of top class skaters and cyclists. Three of his sisters won many cycle races across Norfolk, while his brother-in-law, Walter Horn (father of Olympian Cyril Horn), was a leading skater and cyclist. Sutton was selected to take part in the 500, 1,500 and 5,000 metres speed skating events at the 1924 Olympic,s but only started the shorter distance, finishing 25th, two places ahead of his nephew Horn.
