Biography

Forward Ernst Trautwein was a member of the West German ice hockey teams at three consecutive Winter Olympics 1956-64. At club level he played for just one team, EV Füssen from 1954-65, won eight West German titles in 1956-59, 1961 and 1963-65, and in 1961 was the top scorer in Bundesliga with 34 goals. Füssen also won the Spengler Cup in 1964. In 1969-70 Trautwein had a short spell as the West German national coach, before later taking up a similar with home club EV Füssen, and also SC Riessersee, ESV Kaufbeuren and EA Kempten.The finest moment of Trautwein‘s career was in finishing second to Sweden in the 1953 World Championship final, which was West Germany’s best ever finish at the Worlds. He went on to win 111 international caps, in which he scored 42 goals. Trautwein, who was employed by the Füssen council, was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.
