Biography

East German flatwater canoeist Alexander Schuck partnered Olaf Heukrodt in the C-2 1,000 at the 1983 and 1985 ICF Flatwater Canoe World Championships. The pair won silver in 1983 and gold in 1985. Due to the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles Games, they could not participate. Schuck then partnered Thomas Zereske at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but could only finish fifth.

Schuck’s niece Anett Schuck was also an Olympic canoeist. He turned to coaching after his active career as a graduated sports scientist. He first coached the Danish national team (1992-93) and then became Regional chief coach at the Saxony Canoeing Federation. Schuck married swimmer Silke Hörner.
