Biography

Juhani Wahlsten played ice hockey for Finland at the 1960, 1964, and 1968 Winter Olympics. He helped Finland win a silver medal at the 1962 European Championships. He also played at the World Championships in 1959, 1962, 1965, 1967, and 1969. He played for several teams in Finnish leagues but is best known for his time with Turun Palloseura (TPS). He also played for KalPa (Kalevan Pallo), Ilves, and HJK (Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi).

After his playing career ended in 1971 Wahlsten became a coach. He coached TPS from 1971-72, then was with FC Barcelona. He returned to TPS from 1980-83, but later coached the Finnish U-20 team, and also coached HC Davos in 1987-88. Wahlsten was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.
