Biography

Martin Lang was a German whitewater canoeist who specialised in the Canadian singles. He finished a disappointing sixth at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and seventh in 1996 Atlanta four years later. In 1992, Lang won the overall World Cup, and in 1991 and 1993 he won World Championships C1 gold medals, and added a team gold in 1995, and silver in 1999. At theEuropeans, he won one medal of each colour; team gold in 1996, team silver in 1998, and individual bronze in 1996.

Lang won national titles in 1988, 1990, 1994-96, and 1999. By profession, he became a temporary soldier, freelance fitness coach and, finally, an office clerk at the Regional Sports Federation of Bavaria. He also acted as an assistant coach of the German Canoe Slalom Canadian team for two years.
