Description

The Maldives National Olympic Committee was founded and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1985. The Maldives first competed at the 1988 Olympic Games, and since then at all Summer Games. The nation has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games and has never won an Olympic medal.

Having competed only in swimming, track & field athletics, and badminton, Maldivian Olympians have yet to reach past the first round at the Olympics. Two athletes have advanced a phase in competition: Azneem Ahmed, in the 2012 men’s 100 metres, and Hassan Saaid, in the same event in 2016, both having qualified from the preliminary round to round one.
